Fresh Australian Grown Turmeric Rhizomes are available for a few months of the year only. We grow them ourselves here in the tropical north of Australia NT. Usually our fresh turmeric rhizomes are ready for harvest in June. However this depends largely on the weather. If we have a good or early monsoonal season or an early dry season, the turmeric could be ready sooner.
Our turmeric is grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers. It is watered in the wet season by rain water only and if it needs the occasional water we use clean fresh bore water.
Our next crop of fresh turmeric rhizomes for sale should be ready in June. However, it may be available earlier. We usually sell out so please keep an eye on this website to find out when it will be available.
When the turmeric is in season, we harvest, clean and pack orders once a week to ensure it’s freshness. There is no specific day as it depends on order quantities. Once we run out of harvested turmeric to fill orders, another lot is harvested. This is the only way that we can quarantee the freshest turmeric. So please be patient with your order as we are only trying to provide you with the best and freshest produce.
If there are turmeric rhizomes left at the end of the season, they are grated and slowly dried at a low temperature of only 35 degrees celsius to preserve the valuable nutritional content of the turmeric. We sell the dried grated turmeric here.
Some of the dried grated turmeric is then ground down to a powder and sold here as dried ground turmeric powder.
It takes just over 1kg of fresh turmeric rhizomes to make 100g of the dried grated turmeric or turmeric powder.
