Our ground dried fresh turmeric is made from freshly harvested Australian grown Non-GMO, pesticide free turmeric rhizomes.
We clean the raw turmeric rhizomes by hand, grate and dehydrate them at a very low 35 degree Celsius to preserve the healthy nutrients, vitamins and valuable medicinal properties. (I also sell the grated dried fresh turmeric at this stage). The dry grated turmeric it is then ground to a powder.
It takes an enormous amount of fresh turmeric rhizomes to make just a small amount of dried ground turmeric powder.
Please be aware!
When you buy ground turmeric in the store spice dept you can’t be sure of how it is processed to maintain its health giving properties. I have researched the manufacturing process and am shocked that this type of processing is allowed. One article even mentioned that the process included ionizing radiation and the use of volatile synthetic solvents! I can’t imagine that there could possibly be anything good left in the end product! I won’t comment any more on the process as I don’t know if they are all processed in a similar manner, I can just say that you should do your own research and make an informed decision.
The commercial methods of extraction will vary by manufacturer and are proprietary information. However, I have a copy of ‘Post Harvest Operations’ from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. I will happily email a copy to anyone who is interested.
As a powder form turmeric can easily be added to scrambles and frittatas. Use a pinch of turmeric powder on your roast vegetables, sprinkle it on your rice, in soups, smoothies, etc. The possibilities of getting plenty of turmeric in your diet is endless by using the powdered form. The ground dry fresh turmeric powder doesn’t have a strong flavour.
If for some reason you really don’t like the taste of turmeric, putting the ground turmeric powder into an empty capsule would be an easy way of getting lots of this healthy plant food into your gut.
