View cart “Fresh Dried Grated Turmeric – 100g” has been added to your cart.
Our grated dried fresh turmeric is freshly harvested and cleaned by hand. It is then grated and dehydrated at a low temperature of 35 degrees celcius to preserve the valuable nutritional content of the turmeric.
It takes about 1kg of fresh turmeric to make 100grams of grated dried turmeric.
Use the grated dried turmeric when you are out of fresh turmeric. This way you can enjoy the health giving benefits of turmeric all year round. I put the dried grated turmeric on almost everything and find that it lasts a long time.
It is very convenient to use. Put grated dried turmeric in your tea, sprinkle some on your food or add it to your cooking. I like to sprinkle the fresh or dried grated turmeric into any type of salad, scrambled eggs, stews, soups, casseroles, bone broth etc.
The turmeric is cleaned by hand. I have done my best to clean it thoroughly but it may contain small amounts of dirt or grit as it is not cleaned commercially.
If you need it in a powdered form, I also have fresh dried ground turmeric which is the dried grated turmeric further ground into a powder. As it is not commercially ground, it is not as fine as the store bought turmeric powder.
Fresh Really is Best!
Please be aware that when you buy ground turmeric in the store spice dept you can’t be sure of how it is processed to maintain its health giving properties. I have researched the manufacturing process of imported turmeric powders. I am shocked that this type of processing is allowed.
It is understandable that every country wants to protect their agriculture and farms from insects and diseases. So there must be no insects, dirt or animal content or faeces in any imported herb or spice. To do this, the herbs and spices must undergo strict processing to ensure these are eradicated.
One article even mentioned that the process included ionizing radiation and the use of volatile synthetic solvents! I can’t imagine that there could possibly be anything good left in the end product! If anything, it is probably toxic. I won’t comment any more on the process as I don’t know if they are all processed in a similar manner. I can just say that you should do your own research and make an informed decision.
The commercial methods of extraction will vary by manufacturer and are proprietary information. However, I have a copy of ‘Post Harvest Operations’ from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. I will happily email a copy to anyone who is interested.
SO WHY NOT JUST BY AUSTRALIAN GROWN TURMERIC? Look for turmeric such as ours that has not been sprayed with herbicides or pesticides. No chemical fertilizers are used either.
