You will need a Kombucha Culture Starter to brew your own Kombucha Tea.
My family and I have been brewing Kombucha tea for many years and I personally believe that to brew Kombucha tea, you only need a small piece of kombucha culture starter along with more of the mother liquid, as the mother liquid is more important. This is why I originally only packaged my kombucha culture starter kits with a small piece of culture, so I could fit as much of the mother liquid in the package, ensuring a good brew. These starter kits which will make a 2L brew of Kombucha Tea are still available on this site and can be found here. I personally believe these kits are the best value for money of all the kits.
However, over many years I have had a lot of requests for the kombucha culture or scoby to be ‘round’ and not ‘cut’ as most internet photos display round scobies. So even though it takes up more space in the package, I now have a starter culture kit with a round culture or scoby which is enough to make a 1L brew.
If you prefer to make a larger brew, I have a kombucha culture starter kit with a round scoby and enough mother liquid to make a 4L brew of Kombucha Tea.
For those of you who would like to ferment a larger 8L brew I also have an 8L starter kit.
In my years of brewing Kombucha Tea, I have found that using the continuous brew method produces a much nicer tasting and fizzier drink. I use the continuous brew method for my ready made bottled kombucha tea.
